  6. This update archive contains the ShapeShifter V3.0b binary.
  7. Those of you who only got a gray screen on startup or regular
  8. crashes on a computer without FPU should give it a try.
  9.  
  10. Changes from 3.0 to 3.0b:
  11.   - DeviceDisk drivers are opened with a flag value of zero (instead of
  12.     TDF_ALLOW_NON_3_5)
  13.   - 1MB ROMs now work in 24 bit address space
  14.   - ShapeShifter now works without FPU (ooops...)
  15.   - Processor exceptions occuring on the Mac side are intercepted
  16.   - In case of an error on startup, the Mac screen is always closed
  17.   - Floppy disks inserted before the emulation started weren't checked
  18.     for HD/DD

  25. ShapeShifter is a multitasking shareware Macintosh-II emulator for
  26. the Commodore Amiga computer. It allows to run Macintosh software
  27. concurrently to Amiga applications without hardware add-ons or
  28. modifications.
  29.  
  30. Some of the emulation's features:
  31.  
  32.  - Color display up to 256 colors on AGA Amigas (16 colors on ECS)
  33.    and up to 16,7 million colors on graphics cards (Picasso-II,
  34.    MErlin, EGS and CyBERgraphics cards are supported)
  35.  - No MMU required, even runs on A1200
  36.  - Macintosh hard disks can be simulated in Amiga files or Amiga
  37.    hard disk partitions
  38.    [unregistered version has no hard disk partition support]
  39.  - Can use Amiga floppy drives, serial, parallel and SCSI ports
  40.    from the Mac
  41.    [use of SCSI not possible in unregistered version]
  42.  - Mac HD disks can be read directly with an HD floppy drive,
  43.    Mac 800K disks cannot be read, Mac 720K disks, however, can
  44.  - Multichannel sound output and parallel-port sound digitizers
  45.    supported
  46.  - Access to Ethernet networks with MacTCP
  47.  - Text clipboard sharing between Mac and Amiga
  48.  - File handler to access Macintosh volumes from the Workbench
  49.  - Speed comparable to a real Mac with equivalent hardware

  51. Requirements:
  52.  
  53. OS2.1, 68020 processor, 4MB of RAM, HD floppy drive recommended.
  54. A copy of a Macintosh 512K or 1MB ROM and the Macintosh system
  55. software are not included, but required. The ROM can be read off
  56. of a real Mac by using a supplied program, the system software
  57. can be bought from Apple. Note, however, that reading the ROM is
  58. only legal if you have bought the ROMs or own a real Macintosh.

  60. The most important changes in V3.0:
  61.  
  62.  - The SCSI routines are more compatible (e.g. SCSIProbe and the HDT
  63.    drivers now run)
  64.  - You can select which floppy drives ShapeShifter will use as the
  65.    first and the second Macintosh drive
  66.  - You can select which volume to boot from
  67.  - The serial driver has been heavily improved and now supports fully
  68.    asynchronous transmission and has better support for parallel devices
  69.  - Removed the bug that could make ShapeShifter crash when using the
  70.    "serial.device" from the Amiga side while the emulation was running
  71.  - ShapeShifter now supports MacTCP with Ethernet cards
  72.  - The "Merlin" graphics card is now supported
  73.  - ShapeShifter can now display the Macintosh desktop in a window on
  74.    the Workbench
  75.  - On the 68040, the MMU is used to speed up the graphics refresh
  76.  - ShapeShifter runs on the 68060 and with VMM
  77.
